8 Best Video Games to Play this Lockdown

Due to the global outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, much of the world is currently locked in their homes. Now many of us have more time than we know what to do with. But for many geeks, this only means one thing: “play video games!”

Playing video games does not only offer a sense of escapism amidst the stay-at-home orders, it also enables gamers to interact with their friends and other people without going outside.

With this in mind, we decided to list down 8 best video games that you can play during this lockdown.

Let’s check them out!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

A Netflix series based on the The Witcher franchise fired up the geek world when it was released last December, and fans couldn’t wait for Season 2! If you loved the Netflix series, then why not try to play the game. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, in my opinion, is the best entry in the video game series so far.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set in an open world environment. It follows the story of our protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, as he looks for his missing adopted daughter Ciri, who is on the run from the Wild Hunt. The game also has two expansions: the Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine — both of which were critically acclaimed like the game.

So if you’re looking for a good adventure game that will let you slay monsters and save the day, then The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the perfect game to try!

Resident Evil 3 Remastered
Resident Evil 3 Remastered

Good thing that Capcom was able to release Resident Evil 3 Remastered in time despite the global lockdown caused by the Coronavirus. Resident Evil 3 is the remake of the popular Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, which follows the story of Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse while being hunted by Umbrella Corps intelligent bio-weapon called Nemesis.

Aside from the main storyline, this game also has an online multiplayer mode called Resident Evil: Resistance. This game mode features a 4v1 gameplay that places a team of four players who must survive the traps, enemies, and other hazards placed by Mastermind, which is controlled by another player. Players can control original characters designed for Resistance and some recurring characters from the game’s canon storyline such as Annette Birkin and Alex Wesker.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you’d rather prefer something chill and relaxing to play then Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizon is the game for you! It was released last March 20 for Nintendo Switch, and sold more than 5 million digital copies in the last month.

Animal Crossing: New Horizon is one of the best video games in 2020. It allows players to create a character who moves to a deserted island after buying a package from Tom Nook. In the game, players are free to explore the island, create clothings, gather and craft items, catch fish and insects, and develop the island into a growing community.  Players are also allowed to visit their friend’s island, making it one of its most beloved features since people can communicate and socialize with their friends in the game world.

Borderlands 3

For people who love RPG and action-adventure games then you must definitely try Borderlands 3. It is the fourth installment in the Borderland Series, and the sequel to Borderlands 2. In the game, players can create a character and choose one of four classes. You can complete quests and side-missions, in single-player or multiplayer mode. Players can also gain new abilities as they gain experience. Weapons and gear can be dropped when enemies are killed.

Borderlands follows the journey of the protagonist as he tries to stop the cult-leading twins, Tyreen and Troy Calipso, from harnessing the power of the Vaults spread across the galaxy.

Fortnite

Fornite’s in-game Travis Scott concert was a blast! Over 27.7 million players participated in the Astronomical experience, and the concert was played for 48.5 million times across the five events as announced by Fortnite in their official Twitter account.

Fortnite is a free-to-play online video game from Epic Games, and has become popular over the years thanks to its Battle-Royale mode. What I love about Fortnite are its events and content updates, which will keep you excited in playing the game. Previous events include a Marvel Avengers crossover event, they have also released a Deadpool event where players can get Deadpool’s dual guns and costume. The developers also had a Birds of Prey event which offered Harley Quinn’s costume in the movie as well as several other costumes she wore in the franchise. Fortnite is never short of updates!

Sky: Children of Light
Sky-Children of Light

Another great game I can recommend for people who just play to relax is the social-indie adventure game from Thatgamecompany titled Sky: Children of the Light. You can actually play this game on your Android smartphones and iPhones. It can also be played using Nintendo Switch. But the best thing about it is that this game is free!

Sky: Children of Light will introduce you to an enchanting and beautifully-animated world, where you can explore a magical kingdom using a magic cape that gives you an ability to fly. You and your friends play as the Children of Light, who must spread hope across the desolate kingdom by returning Fallen Stars to their constellations.

Minecraft
Minecraft

Off to another popular game, Minecraft is a great choice to keep you entertained during this lockdown. Thanks to its open world setting, you’re free to explore its generated 3D world, discover raw materials, craft tools, and build structures. And the best thing about Minecraft is that players can modify the game to create a new and different gameplay with its mechanics, items, and assets.

With this freedom given to the players, Minecraft is often cited as the greatest video game of all time. There have been several adaptations, merchandise, and spinoff games based on Minecraft that has been released over the years. One of the latest spinoff game is Minecraft Dungeons which is set to be released this May 20.

GTA Online

Being stuck in our home for a few weeks can be a bore, and its normal to miss going out. This is probably the reason why a lot of players are coming back to GTA Online along with their friends.

GTA Online is the online multiplayer component of GTA V that was released in 2013. It is set within a fictional state of San Andreas. Thanks to its open world design, players can freely roam the city and its open countryside. Players along with their friends can also engage in cooperative and competitive game matches.

  1. GTA 4 was always my favorite. I really liked the story and the characters and how Niko has a backstretch about his past and tracking down the person who ruined his life. And how dark it was too.
San Andreas is what defined the meaning of GTA. A game that has no boundaries, you can do whatever you want, amazing story which perfectly depicts the journey of a low gang member becoming a large businessman.
By the way as a gamer, I got to know in this article you choose good games to play in lockdown.
Keep up the good work. love “The gaming Genie”
