CD Projekt Red has confirmed that they will offer a free next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The free upgrade will be available for gamers who will buy the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version.
The news was confirmed by Gematsu with a conference call with CD Projekt Red developers. CEO Adam Kicinski answered questions regarding Cyberpunk 2077 delay release date to November 2020.
According to Kicinski, CD Projekt Red will give a more robust update for the next-gen consoles. This will be free of charge to gamers who will purchase the PS4 and Xbox One version. Kicinski also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will also be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X on November 19 when the game releases. He also noted that the game will look better on next-gen consoles.
Smart Delivery System
Microsoft also confirmed that gamers who purchased the Xbox One version will also be able to upgrade it on Xbox Series X through the Smart Delivery system. The system will allow Xbox One users to purchase certain games once to play on the current-gen and next-gen Xbox consoles.
The same free next-gen update will also be available on PlayStation 5 for users who purchased the game on the current PS4 console. Although unlike Microsoft, Sony hasn’t released or announced a PlayStation equivalent to Xbox Smart Delivery.
Next-Gen Upgrade Release Date
As to when the next-gen update will be available, CD Projekt Red honestly said that they were not sure. However, the developers plan to release the update in the first quarter of 2021.
Kicinski stated that they haven’t internally planned for a certain release date, because there might be an inevitable delay for the launch of the next-gen consoles.
