Ubisoft to Reboot Skull and Bones

There have been reports that Ubisoft plans to reboot Skull and Bones. It will follow a “live” game model with an ongoing storyline similar to Fortnite.

Sources reported to VideoGamesChronicle.com that the game had been “struggling to carve itself a unique position among Ubisoft’s existing portfolio of open-world games.” The decision to reboot the game was made last year.

According to the sources, Skull & Bones will move towards a ‘live’ game model. It will now feature a persistent game world complete with quests, characters, and storylines. All of which will change and evolve over time based on its gaming community’s actions.

The idea of a social and live storytelling element for Skull and Bones’ new directions was from Epic’s Fortnite. The Skull and Bones reboot game will also have a stronger focus on collaboration.

The reboot will also bring changes to the game’s development team, including the departure of its creative director Justin Farren. Former editorial VP Elisabeth Pellen now leads the game.

Skulls and Bones is initially announced during E3 2017. Currently, there are no details for its planned release date. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said, though, in 2019 that the Skull and Bones is a huge product for the company. He also said that they want to make sure it will be released at a level that will please fans.

TV Show Adaptation

Aside from the reboot, Ubisoft is currently working with Altas Entertainment to create a TV show based on the video game. According to previous reports, the tv show will be a female-driven drama set in the Indian Ocean’s lawless frontier around the end of the golden age of piracy in the 1700s.
