Sony PlayStation has confirmed that Spider-Man will be coming to the superhero video game, Marvel’s Avengers, as a free PlayStation exclusive DLC. Spider-Man will be released post-launch of the game, which means he won’t be available as a playable superhero when Marvel’s Avengers is released on September 4.
This announcement from the PlayStation blog say that Spider-Man will be an additional a playable character in the game. And the best thing about his addition is that it comes for free to anyone who owns the base game. However, it will only be exclusive to PlayStation owners.
Before this announcement, a leaked retail listing indicated that Spider-Man would be an exclusive DLC character for Marvel’s Avengers. However, the retailer clarified that the listing was incorrect, but it appears that it was all a statement for damage control as Sony clarifies the whole thing.
Hawkeye DLC
Aside from Spider-Man, Hawkeye was previously announced as a free post-launch playable character. But unlike Spider-Man, Hawkeye’s release will not be exclusive to one system.
Other than Hawkeye, there seem to be three other heroes currently planned to be added in the game. All of which will come with their own unique set of story missions, which can be playable in solo or co-op mode.
Storyline and Gameplay
As Crystal Dynamics explained before, the main storyline of Marvel’s Avengers called “Reassembled” focuses on the story of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel as she tries to unite the Avengers team to save Earth from a grave threat. This includes superheroes such as Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow.
After finishing Reassembled, players can enter an Avengers Initiative present-timeline, which features a post-campaign content. This will allow players to extend their experience as an Avenger hero, protecting Earth from threats and incursions.
